Arsenal are sitting at the wrong end of the Premier League table and it has now emerged their players are facing huge wage cuts if they are relegated this season.
The Gunners have won just four of their opening 14 league matches this term, and are without a victory since beating Manchester United on November 1.
Arteta’s side are now only four points clear of the relegation placesAFP
Saturday’s defeat by Everton ensured Arsenal would be just four points clear of the bottom three at Christmas, with a London derby against Chelsea up next in the Premier League for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, the Gunners also must take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup this evening – with full commentary LIVE on talkSPORT – and negative results in these upcoming matches could see Arteta sacked before New Year.
But if Arteta, or any potential replacement, cannot guide Arsenal away from the drop, the Gunners players risk drastic pay cuts.
According to the Mail, several Arsenal players will have their wages slashed by 25 per cent if the club are relegated to the Championship – with a reported £37.5million knocked off the Gunners’ annual wage bill.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil are understood to be the club’s highest earners – both on £350,000-a-week – while summer signing Willian is paid a reported £220,000-a-week.
Dropping out the Premier League would be disastrous for Arsenal, but the Gunners ARE in a relegation battle this season.
This is according to ex-Prem ace Gabby Agbonlahor, who told talkSPORT: “It’s serious now.

“At first, everyone was laughing at Arsenal and how they are struggling and in a relegation battle. I actually do think they are now.
“The way they are playing, they are not showing confidence and it’s even more worrying when the manager comes out after the game and says that they’ve been the better team in the last few games and just not getting the results.”
