It’s just over a year since Southampton lost 9-0 at home to Leicester in October 2019 – and here we are praising yet another fine victory for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
Saints have come a long way since that horrible Friday night at St Mary’s, as shown during the 4-3 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Southampton have been unstoppable in 2020AFPDespite almost throwing away a four-goal lead in the last 30 minutes, the opening hour showed everything which has made Southampton one of the most fearsome sides in the top-flight.
In fact, only Liverpool and Manchester City have won more games than Southampton in 2020.
Hasenhuttl’s 13 league victories is more than Arsenal and Chelsea, who have both achieved 12 this calendar year.
Not bad for a manager who many argued should’ve been sacked this time last year!
Most PL wins in 2020
Wolves – 12
Chelsea – 12
Arsenal – 12
Southampton – 13
Man City – 16
Liverpool – 19
Hasenhuttl is now considered one of the best managers in the Premier LeagueAFPNot only has Hasenhuttl been given the opportunity to show his class as a manager, when many clubs would’ve panicked last season, Danny Ings’ career has been been reborn at St Mary’s.
He scored his fifth goal of the season at Villa Park on Sunday, continuing where he left off last term when he got 22 and missed out on the Golden Boot by one.
Hopefully the knee injury he suffered during the win over Villa is nothing too serious, although Hasenhuttl did sound concerned when he said after the match that it ‘doesn’t look good’.
Nonetheless, Southampton’s record is proof that there is still plenty of room for patience in football, and writing people off is a mug’s game.
