Bruno Fernandes shows he’s more than just a penalty taker with screamer to put Manchester United ahead against Istanbul Basaksehir in Champions League

Bruno Fernandes was supposed to be just a glorified penalty taker… remember.

Yes the Manchester United midfielder has scored plenty from the spot for the club since he joined but he showed he’s capable of doing just about anything.

The Istanbul Basaksehir goalkeeper had absolutely no chance

Fernandes scored an absolute screamer from outside the box seven minutes into the Red Devils’ Champions League clash with Istanbul Basaksehir.

He had acres of space on the edge of the box and unleashed an unstoppable half-volley into the top corner giving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance.

The strike was his 20th goal for the club in just his 35th appearance and he quickly followed that up with his 21st.

Alex Telles swung in a cross from the left and goalkeeper Gunok flapped with Edinson Cavani lurking, allowing the Portuguese midfielder to turn into an empty net from six yards.

The stats have been pretty incredible for Fernandes since he joined from Sporting Lisbon in January.

Since he made his debut on February 1, no other Premier League players has scored more goals in all competitions.

He’s also been directly involved in more goals than any other player in that same period with 34 (21 goals and 13 assists).
