Conor McGregor is set to return the UFC at the beginning of next year having agreed to fight his old rival Dustin Poirier.

The Notorious beat Donald Cerrone last January in just 40 seconds in his comeback bout following his dramatic defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The 32-year-old has hinted at fights against Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather but it appears MMA fans will get to see him do what he does best again soon.

Poirier also lost to Khabib last year but has claimed a number of fine wins since losing to McGregor.

The two are now set to meet again at catchweight class and here’s everything we know about it so far…

McGregor v Poirier: What has been said?

UFC president Dana White said in mid-November: “Nothing is done yet. Dustin is signed, but Conor has not received or signed his bout agreement. We have sent the agreement to Conor.

“January 23 on Fight Island if everything goes according to plans but there are a ton of ‘ifs’ right now.

“I have to see where the world is in the next couple of months.”

McGregor tweeted about that date in October, saying: “I accept, Jan 23rd is on. My goal is to see the fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style!

“Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans. Then Manny.”

McGregor then took to Instagram more recently to celebrate securing the date with Porier, posting: “I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again.

“I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weaponry.

“Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.”

McGregor v Poirier: What is the purse?

Former two-weight champion McGregor is the highest-paid fighter in UFC history.

He banked more than £23million for his first-round knockout win over Donald Cerrone in January.

And he’s expected to take home the lion’s share of the purse against Poirier.

The purse for the upcoming bout is not yet known but Mac has vowed to donate a chunk of it to charity.
