Dave Allen insists Daniel Dubois is a ‘nailed-on future world champion’ – but Joe Joyce will beat him

Finally, Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce are going to get it on this weekend.

The British pair will clash on the same night that Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr put on an exhibition fight in the States – both of which will be live on talkSPORT – but the former domestic showdown has real ramifications for the present day heavyweight division.

Joyce vs Dubois is one of the most highly anticipated fights of 2020

Frank Warren has managed to put together the fight between two fighters in his stable and they will compete for not only the British and commonwealth heavyweight title, but also Dubois number two spot in the WBO rankings behind Oleksandr Usyk.

Recently retired British boxer Dave Allen believes that while Dubois is nailed on to become a world champion in the future, Joyce is going to beat him this time around.

“It is an outstanding fight and it is the best fight between two British fighters for as long as I can remember,” Allen told talkSPORT. “This fight is so much bigger than Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte was in 2015.

“Dubois is a nailed on future heavyweight champion of the world but, in saying that, I still favour Joe Joyce to beat him. Joe goes into the fight as a favourite for me.

Allen called time on his career earlier this monthDave Thompson/Matchroom

“Daniel has passed the eye test but has not won the medals and got the experience that Joe has as an amateur. Joe has got the best win as a pro in Bryant Jennings, so I favour Joe.

“But anything in that fight would not be a surprise. It is an absolutely brilliant fight.”

Dubois is only 23 years old and has just seven amateur fights before turning professional. Joyce is 35 and a stone heavier than Dubois after putting in some serious training during lockdown this year.

He’s also an Olympic silver medallist with a great amateur pedigree and Allen may be onto something when talking about the calibre of opponents they’ve beaten thus far.

However, Dubois has been ferocious in his career thus far and has knocked out 14 of his 15 opponents for a pristine record. Joyce has 10 KOs in 11 wins, too, so it really is anyone’s fight.
