Edinson Cavani could make Manchester United debut against ex-club PSG as quarantine rules mean first Premier League appearance may come vs Chelsea

Manchester United may be without deadline day signing Edinson Cavani when their Premier League campaign resumes after the international break.

United, who have lost two of their opening three matches this season, next take on Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday, October 17.

Man United got the signing of Cavani over the line before Monday’s 11pm transfer deadlineAFP

But this comes one day too soon for Cavani if he has to self-isolate for 14 days in line with the government’s coronavirus regulations.

Anyone arriving from France has to self-isolate for a fortnight, and Cavani does not appear to be included in the elite athlete exemption list as he has not been in a secure bubble and receiving regular tests.

According to The Times, Man United are seeking clarification on Cavani’s possible quarantine – with a confirmed 14-day period of self-isolation meaning the Uruguay forward will miss next weekend’s trip to Newcastle.

If Cavani is to miss the Magpies encounter, he would be in the frame to make his United debut against his most recent former club, Paris Saint-Germain.

The Red Devils visit Paris in their Champions League opener on Tuesday, October 20 – two days after Cavani’s 14-day self-isolation period will have ended.

He could then make his Premier League debut four days later – in a huge Old Trafford clash against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
