England take on Wales for the first time in four years tonight.

The two face off in an international friendly at Wembley having not met since Daniel Sturridge’s 90th-minute winner for the Three Lions at Euro 2016.

Plenty has changed since that match with Gareth Southgate and Ryan Giggs now looking to get the best out of the new ranks.

Both sides will be in Nations League action over the weekend so both managers are likely to experiment with their line-ups.

England have been hit by further off-field problems in the build-up following news Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho broke coronavirus rules on Saturday.

Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood are not in the current squad having breached protocols in Iceland last month while Harry Maguire hit the headlines as well.

Southgate will be eager to put any such problems behind him and get on with the job of playing football, starting with a clash against old foes Wales.

England v Wales: What has been said?

Ryan Giggs insists Wales have followed coronavirus protocols correctly after Aaron Ramsey was ruled out of Thursday’s friendly against England.

He said: “Aaron has just followed the protocols he’s told.

“We expect him to be available for the Nations League games on Sunday (Republic of Ireland) and Wednesday (Bulgaria) and are finalising when he will come over.

“We’ve backed that up and I don’t know the situations of any other countries.”

Wales have not beaten England at Wembley since 1977 but are eight games unbeaten since losing to Hungary in June 2019.

“We want to keep that momentum going,” Giggs said.

“We know England could put out two or three teams, but I’ve got a great group of players.

“The strength in depth is going to be tested, but it’s up to the players to stay in the team.

“We’ve got three games in a short space of time, so everyone has been juggling. We’ve got to have one eye on Sunday.”

England v Wales: Squads

Southgate certainly has experimented with the line-up. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Bukayo Saka have been handed their full debuts on their first call-up to the senior side, however, Harvey Barnes is on the bench.

Jack Grealish also makes his first start for the Three Lions, with Danny Ings up front with Calvert-Lewin.

No Harry Kane or Jordan Henderson tonight, meaning Kieran Trippier is captain for the night. The former Tottenham and Burnley full-back is the 123rd man to lead England.

Six Wales players keep their place from their last match. Kieffer Moore remains up front but has Leeds’ Tyler Roberts and Schalke winger Rabbi Motondo for support.

In defence, Swansea star and rumoured Spurs target Joe Rodon starts, as does Bournemouth’s Chris Mepham, alongside Etrhan Ampadu, who has made a decent start to his loan spell with Sheffield United. Jonny Williams comes into midfield alongside Joe Morrell.
