Gabby Agbonlahor reveals he was racially abused by 12-year-olds at Millwall and says he would CANCEL his Lions contract after fans boo as players take the knee

Gabby Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT he would cancel his contract if he were a Millwall player after the shocking scenes at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

Fans were welcomed back to Millwall’s home for their Championship clash against Derby on Saturday, but it was not a joyous return as a section of supporters booed as the players took the knee before kick-off.

Taking the knee has been a customary sight since football restarted from its coronavirus hiatus in June, but the group of Millwall supporters clearly do not agree with the Black Lives Matter stance and showed their distaste.

The incident was captured on talkSPORT as Adrian Durham made clear his feelings of shock and sadness over the booing.

“It’s customary now up and down the land that respect is paid, the players take the knee… and there’s an adverse reaction from the Millwall fans – wow,” he said.

“That is not good at all, questions will be asked about that for sure, that is a SHOCKER. It had all been going so well.

“I can’t really believe what I’ve just heard. it was all joy, it was all love, it was all laughter, everybody was happy, fans are back in at The Den to support their team and then the players take the knee and there’s booing all round from the 2,000.

“I can’t believe it. It’s taken the wind out of my sails a little bit.

“I just wonder what someone like Mahlon Romeo, who is playing at right-back for Millwall today, I wonder what he felt when he heard that noise when he took the knee?

“The whole thing is unacceptable.”

There has been widespread condemnation of the incident in the hours since it happened, and talkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor revealed the extent of the racial abuse he recieved at The Den while still an Aston Villa player.

And he admitted he would rip up his contract today if he were a Millwall player after seeing the scenes in south London.

“I’m not surprised to be honest,” said Agbonlahor on the Sports Bar.

“If there was one stadium where I would say this would have happened with fans going back in, it is exactly this stadium.

“Because when I played there, I was on the bench for an FA Cup game, and I was racially abused by 12-year-olds to 70-year-olds whilst I’m warming up.

“At the time I’m just looking at them like ‘why?’. I was just laughing at them.

“You know that swearing at a player is normal – you get that at every away ground you go to. But to bring race into it shows what sort of fans some of their fans are.

“I feel like seeing that, if I was at that club I would be asking my agent to speak to the club tonight as I want to leave tomorrow.

“I’d be cancelling my contract.

“I’d say to my agent, ‘that’s me done. I’m not playing for the next month and January 1 sort it out with the club as I’m gone’.

“Simple as that.

“Because that for me was shocking.

“If these fans that are booing don’t believe in why we are taking the knee, then just don’t say a thing.”
