Heatwave hero: Woman filmed hosing pedestrians down

Not all heroes wear capes – some come armed with a garden hose.

As Sydney sweltered through 40C temperatures during the weekend, one resident, dubbed “Cool Carol”, took it upon herself to cool off those who were lucky enough to cross her path.

A TikTok user who was working across the street filmed the woman sprinkling water on pedestrians.

“This is Carol who lives just across from the pizza bar I work in,” the TikTok user wrote alongside the video.

“Today it was 41 degrees in Sydney and I saw her sprinkling water on everyone passing by.

“People like her give me hope for humanity.”

Thousands of people have shared with video. with many praising the woman. One even suggested they wished they could give her a hug.

“We need less Karens and more Carols,” one person wrote.

People flocked to Sydney’s beaches as the state sweltered through back-to-back days of 40C temperatures, while the capital set the record for the hottest November night.

Firefighters were also busy battling several blazes across the city’s west on Sunday following the record-breaking hot snap.

A southerly change sent temperatures plummeting on Sunday evening.
