Jose Mourinho’s short but scathing assessment of Tottenham’s performance in Europa League defeat

Life comes at you fast. Jose Mourinho is aware of this lesson that’s lately done the rounds on social media better than anyone right now.

Tottenham went into their Europa League clash at Royal Antwerp in confident mood, with some even talking up their chances of winning the Premier League title this week.

However, any dreaming Spurs fans were brought straight back down to earth as the lacklustre north London side were beaten by the Belgians

The game finished 1-0 with Lior Refaelov smashing home after Ben Davies was dispossessed by Dieumerci Mbokani in a dangerous position.

Spurs never got going in the game, managing just two shots on target, while Antwerp went close to adding to their lead on multiple occasions.

And it seems Mourinho had no complaints about the result, posting on Instagram that his side deserved to lose.

He said: “Bad performances deserve bad results. Hope everyone in this bus is as upset as I am. Tomorrow 11AM training.”

Meanwhile, the Portuguese was quoted saying in his press conference afterwards that he would have liked to have made eleven substitutions during the match.

The latest post came with a photograph of a disappointed Mourinho sat on the team coach.

It’s a sight that’s likely to bring glee to rival fans with Mourinho making himself an internet sensation this week for his Instagram post as Spurs flew out for the game.

He uploaded a picture of him sat on a plane watching something on his iPad while eating popcorn with the caption “One more flight, one more movie, one more @europaleague match @spursofficial.”

Might be an idea if Mourinho takes a break from social media for a bit…
