Khabib Nurmagomedov accused of ‘inciting violence’ by Olympic champion Karolina Sevastyanova after UFC star attacks Emmanuel Macron

Olympic Gold medallist Karolina Sevastyanova has lashed out at UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov for his verbal attack on Emmanuel Macron, claiming he ‘incites violence’.

The former Russian gymnast, who retired immediately after winning gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, accused the 32-year-old of urging aggressive actions.

Khabib has savaged the President of France in several stinging messages on his social media accounts amid mounting tensions in the country over religion and freedom of speech.

And Sevastyanova believes the UFC lightweight champion’s actions were ‘dictated by his temperament’.

“The thing that he incites violence is really scary,” Sevastyanova told R-Sport.

“I’m totally against it. This is not right to put it mildly. We live in a very unstable world, we have an unstable situation right now with people going through hard times.

“Why does he incite violence? Especially now when on the contrary we should stay together helping each other, but not killing each other.

“I think his actions were dictated by his temperament. They live in accordance with rules inherent to their culture,” she added.

Khabib, a devout Muslim from Dagestan, accused President Macron of insulting the people of his religion for his defending the publication of Charlie Hebdo cartoons and depicting Muslims negatively.

He wrote on Instagram: “May the Almighty disfigure the face of this scum and all his followers, who, under the slogan of freedom of speech, offend the feelings of more than one-and-a-half billion Muslim believers.

“May the Almighty humiliate them in this life, and in the next. Allah is quick in calculation and you will see it.”

The post, which featured a mocked up picture of Macron with a boot on his face, was written in Russian and has divided opinion.
