Liverpool will be looking to take control of their Champions League group when they welcome Danish outfit FC Midtjylland to Anfield this week.

The Reds claimed a fine win at Ajax in their Group D opener last Wednesday and now face quick-fire games against Midtjylland and Atalanta next week.

With games coming thick and fast due to the impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown, Jurgen Klopp’s side can take a major step towards the knockout phase with two quick wins.

Midtjylland, who are currently second in the Danish Superliga table, were beaten 4-0 at home by Atalanta last week.

Liverpool v Midtjylland: Team news

Joel Matip, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara will not be fit in time for this clash.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was not giving too much away regarding the timescales for their returns from injury but did reveal at his pre-match press conference that the trio would miss out against the Danish club.

Asked if they would be fit, Klopp said: “I don’t think so. It’s still what I said last week, we look day by day, but it looks like we’ll need a few more days.

“So for tomorrow night, they will probably not be ready.”

Matip has been out since sustaining a knock in the Merseyside derby on October 17 while Thiago injured his knee towards the end of that game at Goodison Park.

Fellow midfielder Keita, back in training after testing negative for coronavirus, has not played since coming off at half-time in the 7-2 hammering by Aston Villa just before the international break.
