Burnley’s last three trips to the Etihad in all competitions ended in 5-0 defeats and City wasted little time in picking up where they left off scoring inside six minutes.
Kevin De Bruyne fed Mahrez in the area and the Algerian took a touch before tucking the ball home past debutant goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell.

City had the ball in the net again when a header from Ferran Torres looped over Peacock-Farrell, hit the post and bounced over the line off the wrong-footed goalkeeper. Fortunately for Burnley, a flag was raised.
Guardiola’s side continued to be relentless and did claim a third five minutes before the interval.
De Bruyne grabbed his second assist as he picked out Benjamin Mendy with a fine cross to the far post who then buried a low volley into the bottom corner.

City did not let up in the second half with the fourth coming an hour into the game through Torres for his first Premier League goal.
The Spaniard finished from close range from a Gabriel Jesus lay-off following a good break by Walker.
Mahrez grabbed a his hat-trick minutes later to make it 5-0 this time racing onto a deep cross from substitute Phil Foden to head home at the far post.
City thought they had scored a sixth after Peacock-Farrell fumbled the ball into the net after initially stopping Gabriel Jesus’ shot, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside against the Brazilian.
