Mason Greenwood is a phenomenal talent, there is absolutely no doubting that.

But the teenager is far from the finished product and that was clear for all to see in Manchester United’s 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday.

The arrival of Edinson Cavani could change that.

The Uruguay international, who joined Manchester United on deadline day on a free transfer on Monday, has made his name as one of world’s most lethal strikers over the past decade and could be the perfect mentor for Greenwood.

He has netted a staggering 341 goals since arriving in Europe with Palermo in 2007 – and certainly has a high opinion of himself.

The 33-year-old described himself as the ‘ultimate finisher’ back in 2017, as he propelled PSG to a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 triumph.

“My style of game is a bit of a mix between a modern player and tradition striker, more aggressive. The real ultimate finisher,” he said.

“We work for that, to score. It’s like a commitment, an obligation we take with ourselves.

“When you reach the moment to score it’s like liberating different emotions such as joy, happiness and also satisfaction.

“You know you’re doing what your team needs, goals. For all of this I feel happy and special in a way.”

“To become a striker you need dedication, focus and professionalism,” he added.

“When they pass you the ball inside the area, the first thing you think of is to score. To find the best way to finish.

“When you find yourself in between two opposing defenders, the first thing that comes to mind is the movement that gives you the chance and to complete the action before they stop you.”

Cavani’s move to United has certainly raised a few eyebrows, but could it have been a masterstroke from the club?

A talent like Greenwood now has the perfect role model to learn from – only time will tell if it pays off.
