Micah Richards hit back at social media users who claim his £50,000 donation split between two Leeds and Manchester charities is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
The former Manchester City defender took to Twitter on Saturday night to pledge his support to those people in need ahead of the country’s upcoming second coronavirus lockdown.

He tweeted on Saturday night: “Lockdown 2 is gonna cause more deaths through depression, loneliness and financial stress.
“Leeds and Manchester have been nothing but great to me growing up so I’m gonna donate 50k! 25k each to two different charities/businesses in the two areas which I feel need it the most!”
Richards, who has established himself as a prominent football pundit since hanging up his boots last year, was met with plenty of negative reaction to the initial post and issued a passionate reply in response.
“What world do we live in when you offer 50k to a charity gets turned into a negative,” Richards tweeted.
“I have no agent no pr company no agenda. I tweeted it so charities can get in touch.
“Those who think it’s a publicity thing are a embarrassment. Deary Deary me!!!”
The gesture followed the announcement from prime minister Boris Johnson that the country would be entering a second lockdown from Thursday, November 5.
Johnson confirmed that Premier League and elite sport will continue in England as the new restrictions come into force from next week until December 2 to combat COVID-19 and avoid the NHS being overwhelmed.
