Ray Clemence: Football world, including Liverpool, Tottenham and Kenny Dalglish, pays tribute to ‘true legend’

The football world is mourning the loss of another icon, with Ray Clemence passing away aged 72.

Clemence, who’s best known for his time at Liverpool, Tottenham and with the England national team, is viewed as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation.

Ray Clemence has died aged 72

A five-time league champion and three-time European Cup winner, Clemence was an unmovable object between the sticks at the height of the Reds’ dominance at home and abroad.

He was one of the finest ‘keepers of his generation and won 61 caps for England, while he also tasted FA Cup and UEFA Cup success with Tottenham.

Clemence was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 and had played a big role in raising awareness of the impact the disease can have.

Tributes have unsurprisingly been pouring in and below you can see some of the most heartwarming ones posted on social media, including from Kenny Dalglish and former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
