Ryan Giggs: Wales manager and Manchester United legend denies allegations after arrest on suspicion of assault on girlfriend

Ryan Giggs has denied allegations of assault after the Wales manager was arrested at his home on Sunday night.

According to The Sun, police were called to the Manchester United legend’s Worsley home at around 10pm on Sunday night following reports of a disturbance.

Giggs has responded to the allegations via a representativeAFP or licensors

Giggs, 46, was then arrested on suspicion of assault and actual bodily harm against his girlfriend, Kate Greville.

A representative for the former winger said: “Mr Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him.

“He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”

The Welsh Football Association have cancelled a press conference which was due to be held today following Giggs’ arrest.

Wales were due to name their squad for the upcoming friendly against the USA, and Nations League fixtures with the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

“The FAW is aware of an alleged incident involving the men’s national team manager Ryan Giggs,” an FAW spokesman said.

“The FAW will be making no further comment at this current time.”

It is understood Giggs has been released on bail as pictures emerged of the Wales boss leaving Pendleton police station.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told The Sun: “Police were called at 10.05pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance. A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault.”

Giggs has been in charge of Wales since January 2018, successfully guiding them to qualification for Euro 2020, which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He is widely considered one of the greatest players in Man United’s history, winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups during his time at Old Trafford.

Giggs is also co-owner of League Two side Salford City FC, alongside former United teammates David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.
