The name Sergey Kuzmin may not be familiar with British boxing fans, but the Russian is hoping to become a huge player in the heavyweight division.

Kuzmin faces Martin Bakole on Saturday night on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title fight against Kubrat Pulev at the SSE Arena in Wembley.

Sergey Kuzmin forced David Price to retire on his stool in 2018

Fans flock to arenas, turn up their radios and crowd TV screens when the heavyweights start letting their hands go and the 33-year-old is the famous for doing just that.

Kuzmin not only retired David Price in September 2018 on Joshua’s undercard, but he also can lay claim to a 32-second KO of the iron-chinned Joe Joyce.

The Russian beat Joyce in 2013 when the pair were just amateurs, but is hoping to give ‘The Juggernaut’ a chance to settle the score in the professional ranks.

“It happened very quickly and it was not a very long fight,” he told Sky Sports.

Joe Joyce is now the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight championFrank Warren

“It’s hard to describe all that came through my head because I didn’t get to see much of what he brought into the fight.

“If the fight happens we will see,” he added. “It would not make any sense to compare one fight to another and amateur and professional boxing.

“But hopefully we will meet one day in the ring and we will see, I am very interested in fighting Joyce in the future in the pros.”

While Joyce is now ranked No.2 with the WBO after his victory over Daniel Dubois, Kuzmin is fighting Bakole for the WBC International title on Saturday night.

Kuzmin wants to become world heavyweight champion

Tyson Fury holds the full version of the belt after stopping Deontay Wilder in February and Kuzmin is more than ready to go after the ‘Gypsy King’ when the time is right.

“Of course, my goal has always been to fight for a world title,” he concluded. “If Tyson Fury will be the champion I will go after his belt.”
