After making his WWE debut 30 years ago to the day at the very same event, The Undertaker had his ‘final farewell’ at Survivor Series.

The Deadman was honoured by WWE and they rolled out a whole host of legends that had played a part in the 55 year old’s iconic career.

Names like Kevin Nash, Mick Foley Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Triple H, The Godwins, Savio Vega, Rikishi, JBL, Shane McMahon, Big Show, Ric Flair, The Godfather and Kane filled up the ring to show their respect for the career of The Phenom.

After another outstandingly produced WWE video package paying tribute to The Undertaker, Vince McMahon himself – a rarity these days – got in the ring and gave the seven-time world champion the fitting introduction he deserved.

Then, The Undertaker finally made his way out with the textbook slow, deliberate walk to the ring and would give a final promo.

He said: “Now it’s time for me to rest in peace.”

The tributes to The Undertaker poured in on Twitter and given his legendary career, they’ll be many more to come:

Without @undertaker There would be no Murderhawk.
You took the time in a gym in Austin TX nearly 20yrs ago to talk to and give advice to an aspiring kid who hadn’t done jack in the biz yet. Your words resonated with me & kept me going forward! #ThankYouTaker

The Undertaker is probably the greatest character that has ever been realised in WWE. In a world where the premise is to make the audience believe what you’re doing, The Undertaker was a supernatural character that commanded everyone’s respect and kept fans fully invested.

It’s not easy to be a main event level talent for literally the duration of your career, but he found ways to reinvent himself at the right times. Sometimes subtly, sometimes a transformation like the American Badass, but he made sure fans cared and stayed true to the origins of what have to be considered an outlandish and farfetched character – but it worked.

Undertaker is said to have had his ‘final farewell’, but it’s hard to imagine WWE resisting to give him a special moment when fans are allowed to return to events.

Furthermore, he’s easily a first ballot Hall of Famer and will headline his eventual class. One would think WWE will do it as soon as possible, but they have the postponed 2020 class to fit in yet.
