Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed he struck up a relationship with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk when the defender sent a ‘No Context Hearn’ tweet to celebrate winning the league.

After the Reds lifted the title on July 22, Van Dijk posted the below tweet consisting solely of a clip from one of Hearn’s interviews.

He said in the clip: “It’s here, it’s here. Delivered, signed, sealed and we are off for a nice cold beer in the restaurant. Over and out.”

Following this, the pair began talking through direct messages and have now recorded an episode of Hearn’s podcast together.

The promoter explained on No Passion No Point: “The guys in the office said to me, ‘Yeah, we’ll get Virgil van Dijk.’

“I was like, ‘Virgil van Dijk? What on earth is Virgil van Dijk gonna wanna speak to me for?’

“And then I thought, hold on a minute – when Liverpool won the Premier League, the first thing that he posted was a ‘No Context Hearn’ meme.

“So I followed him, he followed me back and I just DMd him.

“I said, ‘Mate, massive respect, what you’ve achieved is incredible.’

“And he came straight back to me and said, ‘Thank you mate, thank you.’

“So I’m thinking, maybe I might be able to get people on the podcast.”

Then, when the Dutchman joined the show, Hearn told him: “Ever since you won the Premier League and then posted a ‘No Context Hearn’ clip straight after, I’m now your biggest fan.”

Van Dijk laughed in response and later explained what the title triumph meant to the city.

He said: “I think we all know, I can speak for myself, we all know what’s asked from us.

“From the fans, from the club, the whole culture of the club, the way we go about ourselves.

“And it’s all about what we do on the pitch at the end of the day.

“But the main thing is we’re in the same boat, all in the same direction.

“I think that’s definitely been key to our success over the last couple of years and the manager has played a massive part in that.”
